Tia McCoy, neighborhood engagement director for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and instructor at NeighborWorks America's upcoming Winter Virtual Training Institute (VTI), is thinking about changes: Evictions and foreclosure moratoria ending, an ever-changing pandemic, and the impact these things have on credit.

Eric Nokes was having trouble finding a job. Plus, he was doing community service, part of a sentence in a Missouri drug court. But when he began doing community service at North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC), staff there also entered him into the Expanding Your Employability program. That put him on a path to finding work.

Onboarding new staff members is a critical business process made even more challenging during a pandemic. As a financial empowerment coach and housing counselor primarily serving older adults, Keith Davis knew tax season would be different this year. To meet the challenge, Davis utilized the resources and information from his NeighborWorks online training to make key operational changes and address his clients' needs.

The active engagement of community residents is at the core of many NeighborWorks network organizations. But how do you make sure that the resident involvement is effective? How do you make sure you, as a community-serving professional, are approaching the residents in an authentic way?

Middle neighborhoods – those neighborhoods caught between growth and decline – were first developed to provide modestly priced homes to the growing middle class. "Middle neighborhoods provided families with the opportunity to own a home, build community and realize the American Dream," explains Paul Singh, NeighborWorks America's vice president for community initiatives. But many middle neighborhoods are facing serious challenges. Housing stock is aging.

Ariel Locke, a school administrative assistant, was ready for a change. That prompted her to pursue certification in engineering technology through MiraCosta College. A $1,000 scholarship from Community HousingWorks (CHW) is helping pay her way.

Community development organizations need to be "disaster resistant," believes Jayne Windham, CEO and senior consultant of Livable Housing, Inc. "This is sometimes difficult because we're all so busy
