ML229vc Emotional Intelligence (EI) at Work

The rapidly changing world of neuroscience has given rise to concepts of multiple intelligences, including emotional and social intelligence. Success in an organization is no longer solely defined by task skills, abilities, and traditional leadership models. The ways in which we have self-awareness of our emotions and those of others is critical to building healthy organizations. In this participatory online course, we will discuss the Emotional Intelligence (EI) framework and examine the basic neuroscience behind the model. Learners will do an informal EI assessment by working through the Goleman model grid and subsequent competencies. We will identify how Emotional Intelligence impacts both the business of our organizations and our daily working environment. We will examine how critical EI is for leadership roles and healthy team development. Learners will practice strengthening their EI skills and identify future development needs so that the learning extends beyond the classroom.

This faculty-led course includes self-paced online assignments and the use of peer discussion forums. The course is presented in four weekly lessons. Participants should expect to spend approximately four hours per week on course related reading and assignments.
