CL124 Reaching Out to Emerging Populations

Our neighborhoods’ population is changing. New people are coming in. Our communities are becoming increasingly diverse. This population shift significantly impacts the way we interact with one another. How can we reach out to newcomers without alienating the established residents? How can we best work together to address the opportunities these changes present? What can we do to ensure our community becomes more culturally competent? How can we help promote the development of activities, programs and services that take into account different cultural norms and expectations? In this workshop participants will look at the various ways that newcomers and their diversity strengthen our communities. The workshop will also address and discuss stereotypes and misinformation and learn ways to recognize the power that developing greater community cohesiveness brings.
