NeighborWorks America awards more than $79 million in grants to network organizations to increase access to affordable housing and promote comprehensive community development

Washington, D.C. — NeighborWorks America will provide more than $79 million in grants to the 247 organizations that make up the NeighborWorks network, investing critical resources to increase access to safe, affordable housing and thriving communities in every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. 

"In 2022, NeighborWorks network organizations were a lifeline for people facing eviction, foreclosure and homelessness. We provided the knowledge, access and resources to secure stable housing," said NeighborWorks America President & CEO Marietta Rodriguez. "Rising housing costs have put enormous strain on household budgets, and NeighborWorks network organizations continue to work with families to improve their financial well-being. NeighborWorks network organizations also lift up entire communities in urban, suburban and rural areas, partnering with residents to strengthen and revitalize neighborhoods."

Network organizations use flexible NeighborWorks grants to develop affordable rental and for-sale housing, provide housing and financial counseling services, engage residents in comprehensive community development strategies, and make commercial and economic development loans. These grants serve as catalytic investments, enabling the early stages of a project to begin, filling small gaps in project budgets, and allowing each organization to pursue tailored solutions to address community priorities. 
 
In fiscal year 2022, NeighborWorks America and the NeighborWorks network yielded a direct investment of $10.8 billion in communities across the country, and:

• Provided 415,800 total housing and counseling services,
• Created 18,800 new homeowners,
• Owned and/or managed 204,900 rental homes, and
• Created or maintained 43,000 jobs.

NeighborWorks America increased investments in network training grants to support virtual and in-person professional learning opportunities in fiscal year 2022 that drew 5,715 network organization participants in areas including homeownership and financial counseling, management and leadership, and affordable housing. In addition:

• NeighborWorks America awarded 10,900 professional training certificates of completion to affordable housing and community development practitioners from all 50 states and several territories. 
• More than 15,110 network and non-network participants attended NeighborWorks training, representing more than 1,400 unique organizations. 

"Practitioners rely on training resources provided by NeighborWorks to build staff skills, elevate the standard of practice, and professionalize the field," Rodriguez said. "NeighborWorks is committed to continue this important training in the community development field in fiscal year 2024 and beyond."
